Potomac Yard, Alexandria, Virginia (Old Town)
Winner of Trenchless Technology Magazine's
PROJECT OF THE YEAR (New Installation - 2003)
Huxted Tunneling teamed again with Shirley Contracting, LLC to install almost 7,500 feet of 30” microtunneling for a gravity sewer line trunk line for the Potomac Yard Development Project. Since the project was located in historic “Old Town” Alexandria, space was a big challenge, both on the surface and in the tunnel shafts. Minimal damage and disturbance to the surrounding area was an important requirement. Multiple tunnels were completed with shafts ranging in depth from 32 to 45 feet. This is an example of the "Classic" microtunnel project with respect to size and purpose.

Spoil material is processed in the soil separation unit and moved into trucks waiting to transport it to the disposal site.
